Hafnarfjörður

The Hidden Gem by the Harbor.

Hafnarfjörður is a vibrant seaside town just 15 minutes from downtown Reykjavík and about 30 minutes from Keflavík International Airport, making it a perfect first or last stop on your Iceland adventure.

Built on centuries-old lava fields, Hafnarfjörður has a rich history dating back to the 14th century and was once one of Iceland’s most important trading ports. Today, it's known for its colorful houses, scenic harbor, friendly atmosphere — and its strong connection to Icelandic folklore. Locals say it’s home to hidden people and elves, and many believe they still live in the lava rocks around town.

With cozy cafés, unique shops, public art, and beautiful walking paths through lava landscapes, Hafnarfjörður is a perfect blend of nature, culture, and myth — all within easy reach of the city and the airport.
